- hydrophilic heads outside
- bilayer
4
Q
Describe the structure of a phospholipid
A
Phospholipids are composed of a hydrophilic head made
up of a glycerol joined to a phosphate group held
together by a phospho-ester bond.
The hydrophilic head is polar and can dissolve in water.
And two hydrophobic fatty acid tail joined to the
glycerol molecule by ester bond formed during
condensation reactions.
The hydrophobic tails is not polar so it is insoluble in
water.
