Topic 3 Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the equation for photosynthesis
Water + carbon dioxide —> oxygen and glucose
Light on top of arrow
Chlorophyll under arrow
What is photosynthesis
The process where plants use sunlight to make glucose
What is chlorophyll
The green pigment found in the chloroplasts, which pick up the energy from the sunlight
Where does the water come from?
The soil
Where does the carbon dioxide come from
It diffuses from the air
What does the plant use the glucose for?
Turned into starch for storage
Used in respiration
Converted into lipid/fat for storage
Used to make cellulose cell walls
What are the limiting factors of photosynthesis
Light, temperature and carbon dioxide
Explain the photosynthesis light experiment
You move the light closer to the plant
You count the bubbles of oxygen produced per minute
The closer the lamp is to the plant the quicker the rate of photosynthesis and more oxygen bubbles produced
Name the substance that removes chlorophyll
Ethanol
If starch is not present what colour would the leaf be and what would assume has happened
Orangey/brown kept in a dark room
