topic 3: climate change Flashcards
weather
Refers to the state of the atmosphere at a particular place and time.
climate
The long term pattern of weather conditions in a particular area, typically observed over a period of 30 years or more.
earth’s energy budget
Refers to the balance between the energy earth recieves from the sun and the energy it radiates back into space
solar radiation
All light is measured on a spectrum
Different types of light will interact differently with the atmosphere
UV radiation
○ Invisible
○ Causes sunburns, skin cancers and eye damage
○ Is absorbed in the mesosphere
Infrared radiation
○ Felt as heat
Is absorbed by both the troposphere and earths surface
visible light
○ Colours that can be seen by the hiuman eye
○ Is absorbed and reflected by earths surface
○ Reflected light become infrared light
Albedo effect
natural GH effect
Solar cycles
