It is a universal way to name & Identify living organisms, so scientists all over the world can avoid confusion.

What are the 3 main rules when using the Binomial system?

A
  1. Use Italics
  2. The Genus name should be capitalised whereas the species name should be lowercase (e.g. Homo sapiens).
  3. After the first use, binomial names are abbreviated to the first letter of the Genus name followed by the species name
    (e.g. H. sapiens).
