Beef Bonanza
Where ranchers overstocked their cattle after 1885 so there was less demand for beef.
Meant that ranchers had to adapt to depend on the ability to feed livestock in winter.
They also began to use barbed wire to fence of their land which allowed them to control their herds and look after them, which lead to the end of the open range.
Effects of the end of the open range for cowboys
Cowboys became domesticated with more mundane jobs, such as mending fences. They also were growing more crops and becoming more involved in farming
Groups of people settling to the West
20,000 black migrants moved to Kansas in 1879. This was known as the Exoduster movement.
Government actions to help settling
Desert ,and act (1877)- Farmers who lived on drier land could buy up 640 acres at a low cost as long as the irrigated the land within three years.
Lincon county war
- A conflict between Lawrence Murphy ,James Dolan and John Tunstall.
John Tunstall was murdered by the two and Sherrif Brady.
To take revenge, a group of people named the Regulators, including Billy the Kid went out for revenge.
