What were the American reasons for detente
A
1- 1968, Nixon elected president of USA. He wanted to take his country out of the Vietnam war, which had cost the USA billions of dollars and led to deaths of 60,000 American soldiers
2- large scale demonstrations against the vietnam war in USA as well as urban riots caused inequality in America both in wealth and race.
Detente would allow the USA to spend less money on weapons and ,pre lm trying to solve its social problems
