Q

What is Resolution?

A

The ability to distinguish between objects that are very close together.

  • the smaller the resolution distance (smaller distinguishable distance between two points) the higher the resolution
e.g. resolution of 0.5nm shows more detail than resolution of 200nm.

Q

What is the stain Acetic Orcein used for?

A
  • Orcein is a reddish-brown dye
  • orchil is a purple-blue dye.
  • Orcein is used as a stain in microscopy to visualize chromosomes, elastic fibers, Hepatitis B surface antigens, and copper-associated proteins

Q

What is the objective lens?

A
  • placed near to specimen
  • produces a magnified image
  • objective lens configuration allows for much higher magnification and reduced chromatic aberration

Q

What is the eyepiece lens?

A
  • specimen viewed through it
  • further magnifies the already magnified image produced by the objective lens
  • eyepiece lens configuration allows for much higher magnification and reduced chromatic aberration
