What are the 3 Sustainability Pillars?
Environmental, Social, Economic
What is the Environmental Pillar?
The Environmental pillar focuses on the preservation & protection of natural resources and ecosystems. Environmental concerns include Climate Change, Biodiversity Conservation, Pollution Prevention & Control.
What is the Social Pillar?
The Social pillar focuses on the importance of maintaining & improving social equity, reduce poverty & inequality. Social concerns include Human Rights, Equity and Social Justice, Access to healthcare & Education and Training.
What is the Economic Pillar?
The Economic Pillar focuses on promoting economic growth and development while ensuring that progress does not compromise the environment and social well-being. Economic concerns include Decent work, resource efficiency & sustainable production & consumption.
What is two Environmental concern? Provide 2 examples on what the Singapore Government is doing to help address it?
- Climate Change. One way the government is addressing this concern is by transitioning to clean energy sources such as wind & solar power. Singapore aims to quadruple its solar deployment to 1.5 giga-watt peak by 2025 through the use of solar panels on rooftops, reserviors, HDBs and offshore floating systems.
- Pollution Prevention and Control. One way the government is addressing this concern is by reducing pollution to protect human health & the environment. Singapore LTA promotes the use of electric & hybrid vehicles to reduce emissions from road transport.
What is two Social concern? Provide 2 examples on what the Singapore Government is doing to help address it.
- Access to health care. One way the government is addressing this concern is by providing accessible and affordable healthcare for all. Singapore does this by offering healthcare subsidies & the use of Medisave. The Community Health Assist (CHAS) Scheme provides affordable primary healthcare services to low-income individuals
- Human rights. One way the government is addressing this concern is by promoting & protecting human rights. Singapore has a law called The Protection from Harassment Act (POHA) providing individuals with legal recourse against harassment, including racial or religious harassment.
What is two Economic concern? Provide one example on what the Singapore Government is doing to help address it
- Decent Work. One way the government is addressing this concern is by promoting employment opportunities with fair wages and benefits and safe working conditions. Singapore has implemented progressive wages in Singapore to uplift low-wage workers. The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) in Singapore, which works to improve workers’ welfare and job security through collective bargaining and advocacy
- Resource Efficiency. One way the government is addressing this concern is by promoting sustainable and circular economies. Singapore introduced a carbon tax to encourage businesses to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a business model that helps a company be socially accountable to itself, its stakeholders, and the public.
