topic 2 motion & forces (graphs) Flashcards
displacement time graph - what is the gradient
velocity
displacement time graph - sharper gradient means..
faster speed
displacement time graph - negative gradient means..
it’s returning back to starting point
displacement time graph - curved line means..
the velocity is changing
velocity time graph - the gradient is..
acceleration
velocity time graph - sharper gradient means..
more acceleration
velocity time graph - negative gradient means..
returning back to starting point
velocity time graph - horizontal line means..
constant speed
velocity time graph - 0 velocity means..
stationary
velocity time graph - curved line means..
acceleration is changing
how do you determine constant speed
- measure distance travelled, use stopwatch for time taken
- use speed = distance / time
how do you find average speed
- work out total distance travelled + find time taken for the whole journey
- use speed = distance/time
how do you use light gates
- set up 2, one at start and one at end then measure distance between them
- as soon as the object passes through the 1st it will measure the time taken to reach the 2nd
- use speed = distance/time
