Topic 2 Mechanics Flashcards
Projectile motion
Horizontal and vertical motion are independent of each other
Elastic collision
A collision in which momentum and kinetic energy are conserved
Inelastic collision
A collision in which momentum is conserved but kinetic energy is not.
(The colliding objects may stick together after the collision)
Law of conservational of momentum
If no external forces are acting/ in an isolated system, momentum is constant/ momentum before=momentum after
Acceleration from velocity time graph
Gradient
Velocity from displacement time graph
Gradient
Displacement from velocity time graph
Area under graph
Newton’s first law
If all forces are balanced/ there is no resultant force, there will be no change in speed, direction and shape
Instantaneous speed
The speed at a particular instant (as opposed to average speed, which is over a period of time)
