Q
  • Gonads describe the reproductive structures responsible for the production of gametes. In males, the gonads are the testis, while in females, the gonads are the ovaries. The gonads are responsible for primary sex characteristics, and are directly involved in reproduction. Secondary sex characteristics differ from primary characteristics in that they indicate sexual maturity but are not involved in reproduction, such as breast development or increased body fat in females during puberty.
  • Testosterone results in the secondary sex characteristics in men, but also closes the epiphyses of long bones
