Q

What evidence is there that the global climate is changing?

A

The seas are rising and the Earth’s average temperature is rising. This can be proved from many graphs that show the difference in temperature over the years

Q

What are the stages of the greenhouse effect?

A
  1. The sun’s rays pass through the atmosphere to Earth 2. The Earth’s surface is warmed 3. Heat is reflected from the Earth back out to the atmosphere 4. Some heat escapes into space 5. Burning fossil fuels and cutting trees increase the Carbon Dioxide levels 6. Some heat is trapped by Carbon Dioxide and other greenhouse gasses 7. So the atmosphere gets warmer.

Q

What are some of the causes of climate change?

A

Deforestation (more CO2 in the air), carbon being emitted into the air, heat is trapped by greenhouse gasses, carbon is dug up or retrieved from the oceans just to be consumed, thick atmosphere,

Q

What are the consequences of Climate Change?

A

Coastal areas that are very close to the sea’s surface could get flooded over time. An estimated 17 million people in Bangladesh will be affected by climate change. Also, the rising in temperature will cause more tropical storms to happen as the sea’s temperature gets warmer

Q

What can be done to make our houses more sustainable?

A

Insulation in walls, roof, and floor; build homes facing south; use solar panels for electricity; use electric cars; find work close to where you live; like BedZED, find all materials for the house within a certain range of the house.

Q

Pros for generating renewable energy?

A

Pros:
No greenhouse gas emissions, renewable, eco-friendly, generators could last up to 30-40 years, can get energy from many different natural energies, helps wildlife evolve with human changes and adapt to urbanisation

Q

How is the greenhouse gas affect increasing?

A

As more and more greenhouse gases create a bigger barrier, it is stopping more and more of the suns rays from escaping into space, therefore heating up the planet too quickly.

Q

Cons for creating renewable energy?

A

Cons:
Lots of maintenance required, if there are malfunctions, there could be some pollution, can disrupt animal migration, could impact animals’ lifestyles, the spinning blades could kill wildlife from tidal and wind energy, not always reliable and do not always work in all seasons.
