Topic 2 Flashcards
What is a mixture
A combination of two or more substances
What is a Homogenous mixture
Mixtures that look same throughout, Looks the same
What is a Heterogenous Mixture
A Mixture what contains two or more visible parts, Obvious ones are named Mechanical Mixtures
What is Suspension
A Heterogeneous mixture in which the particles settle slowly
What is a Colloid
A heterogeneous mixture where the particles do not settle
What is emulsion
a mixture where droplets of fat are prevented from joining
What is Dissolving
The complete intermingling of the particles of two or more substances
What is a Solute
The substance that dissolves
What is a Solvent
The substance that dissolves the solute
What is Soluble
Able to dissolve
What are the 4 factors that affect dissolving
Agitation Temperature Pressure Solute Size
Solubility
How much can be dissoloved
What is Saturated
No more solute will dissolve in a amount of solvent at a specific temp
What is Un-saturated
Solvent that can still hold more at that temp
What is Supersaturation
A solution that contains more solute then it normally should at a certain temperature
