Topic 1.5 Flashcards
Endosymbiotic theory
Symbiogenesis, endosymbiotic theory, or serial endosymbiotic theory, is the leading evolutionary theory of the origin of eukaryotic cells from prokaryotic organisms
Endosymbiosis
Symbiosis in which one of the symbiotic organisms lives inside the other.
Symbiotic relationship
The living together of two dissimilar organisms in more or less intimate association or close union
Mutualistic relationship
A mutualistic relationship is when two organisms of different species “work together,” each benefiting from the relationship
Spontaneous generation
The supposed production of living organisms from non-living matter, as inferred from the apparent appearance of life in some supposedly sterile environments.
Miller-Urey experiment
The Miller–Urey experiment was a chemical experiment that simulated the conditions thought at the time to be present on the early Earth and tested the chemical origin of life under those conditions.
Genetic code
The means by which DNA and RNA molecules carry genetic information in living cells.
