Topic 13 Flashcards
Dynamic equilibrium
Rate of forward reaction = rate of backward reaction. Concentration of reactants and products stay constant
Equilibrium constant Kc
Kc = (product of concentration of concentration of reactant) / (product of concentration of concentration of product)
Equilibrium constant Kp
same as Kc but with partial pressure
ONLY THE ONES IN GASEOUS STATE
Linking entropy with equilibrium
S = RlnK (as K (Kc / Kp) increases, S increasesJ
Effects of changing condition on value of Kc or Kp
Larger Kc, greater the amount of products
Temperature: both equilibrium position and value of Kc and Kp will change
Concentration: shift equilibrium position changes, not Kc
Pressure: shift equilibrium position, not Kp
Catalyst: no effect cause both forward and backward rate increases
