Topic 12 Flashcards
What is an alloy?
A mix of 2 or more metals
What are the magnetic materials?
Iron, Cobalt and nickel are the magnetic elements
What is a magnetic field?
The region around a magnet where materials experience a force.
What does the lines around a magnet represent?
The lines around a magnetic field represent a magnetic field (magnetic flux)
What is a permanent magnet?
Always magnetic and have fixed poles
E.g speakers , compass
What is an induced magnet?
Materials that are magnetic but don’t have fixed poles
What direction does the lines go on a magnetic field
North to south
What does it mean if the poles are closer or further?
Further - the further the lines are from each other weaker the field
Closer- the closer the lines the stronger it is
What happens when north and south poles are placed together?
A unfirom field is created (attragtikn
How do we use a tiny bar magnet tos how the field lines on a magnet?
-Put the magnet on paper
-place it near the magnet and it’ll show the direction of the field line
-mark it with 2 dots, treat this to get a field line
What is the current direction?
Perpendicular to the magnetic field direction
