Topic 1 (Waves, Sound And The EM Spectrum Flashcards
Diagram for eye
Look at it right now you poo poo head
Function of the iris?
It controls the amount of light that enters the eye by opening and closing the pupil
Function of the cornea?
It acts as the eyes outer most lens. It functions like a window that controls and focused the entry of light into the eye.
Function of the pupil?
It controls the amount of light entering the eye.
Function of the lens?
It transmits light, focusing it on the retina
Function of the retina?
It is an essential part of the eye that enables vision.
Function of the Optic nerve
The optic nerve transmits sensory information for vision in the form of electrical impulses from the eye to the brain
What is the explanation for the looking at a dot in a circle expirament
After focusing on an image for 25 seconds then looking at a bright surface a chemical is released in the eye which slows down the rate at which the electrical signal of the image sent to the brain is last.
What happens when a ray enters a glass block at 90 degrees?
It passes straight through
What happens when a ray enters the glass block at any other angle?
It bends towards the normal
What happens when a ray comes out of the glass block at 90 degrees?
It continues straight
What happens when the ray comes out of the block at any other angle?
It bends away from the normal.
Compare the direction of a ray entering a glass block with the direction of the ray emerging from the opposite side.
Parallel
How does refraction occur?
When a wave moves from a less dense to a more dense medium
When parallel rays pass through a lens they converge, what lens is this?
Converging lens
