Definition of Timbre?
The unique quality of sound produced by different instruments. What makes instruments sound different.
What instruments are specific to the Indian genre?
Sarangi, Tabla, Tanpura, Shehnai, Zilher, Bansuri, Sarod, Sitar.
What is Portamento?
Sliding between two notes rated than sudden change of pitch.
Definition of reverb?
Electronically adding an echo effect.
Definition of distortion?
Electronically making the timbre sound aggressive and harsh.
What is a chorus?
Electronically manipulating the sound to give the impression of many sound sources.
What instruments are specific to the African genre?
Lute, Sanza, Ivory Horn, Balafon, Zurna, Oud, Kora, Mbira, Djembe, Doumbek, Djembe.
What are the two different vocal techniques?
Falsetto: very high adult male voice.
Vibrato: variation of pitch, sounds intense, used a lot in opera and on string instruments.
What is pianissimo?
Very quiet.
What is piano?
Quiet

Fairly quiet
What is mezzo forte?
Fairly Loud

What is crescendo?
Gradually getting louder.

Gradually getting quieter.
