What does Inequality mean
- Inequality refers to the large economic gap between the citizens of S.A
- The reason for this gap is shortage of access to education
- Government needs to insure that education is accessible to all people.
- Qualified people get employed easier than those who are not.
- Inequality is a major cause of poverty
What does Poverty mean
-Poverty means that a person cannot satisfy his/her basic needs
What are Other causes of poverty
- Lack of education
- Constantly rising costs of living
- Lack of job opportunities
What influences does Inequality and poverty have on a business
- Inequality and poverty shrinks the market, because poor people cannot afford to buy luxury items
- Businesses can thus only sell their products to a small part of the market.
- Inequality and poverty leads to crime such as theft and shoplifting
- Which causes businesses to spend more on security
What does Inclusivity mean
-Inclusivity means that there is not discriminated against anyone and no one is excluded from anything
What legislations has been implemented to try to create and inclusive workforce
- Employment equity act- unfair discrimination in the work place
- Skills development act- develop the skills of the south African workforce
- Affirmative action-policy for previously disadvantaged individuals
- BEE and BBBEE-distribution of wealth to black people
In what way does Inclusivity influence business operations
-if a business complies with it they are considered for state contracts
What is unemployment
-A person is unemployed if he is looking for employment but cannot find it.
What is unemployment caused by
-Shortage of training and qualification
What are Retrenchments
- Shortage of employment opportunities
- Unemployed people don’t have money to spend, thus businesses can’t grow and can’t create employment opportunities
What is an unproductive labour force
- Businesses have to meet production targets if they want to be profitable
- Unproductive employees will not meet production targets
- Businesses have to employ more employees to meet the targets
- This means more expenses and less profit for businesses thus they cannot grow and create new job opportunities
Hiv
- Absent employees means reduced production at the same labour costs.
- The recruitment costs of the business also increases due to the fact that they need to recruit new candidates more often because of the disease
- There are costs related to the employment of new employees
- Because HIV and Aids is so out of control it affects the entire countries workforce
What is hiv
- HIV causes Aids which affects the human immune system
- Employers are not allowed to discriminate against people suffering from the disease
- It however affects the business if it’s employees suffer from the disease
- Employees suffering from the disease will be absent from work more
- Absent employees shrinks the labour force of a business
