Topic 1- Subject 3: Forces Due To Gravity Flashcards
What is force measured in?
Newtons (N)
What is Newtons law in relation to gravity.
F(g)=mg
Force due to gravity is equal to mass multiplied by the gravitational constant of earth (-9.8m/s)
Define weight.
A measure of force due to gravity measured in newtons (N).
Define mass.
Amount of matter in an object measured in kilograms (kg).
What is the difference between weight and mass?
Weight is dependent on the gravitational constant of the planet whereas mass is universal.
Define friction.
The resistance to motion of a surface moving along another.
Define tension.
The pulling force transmitted along a rope, string, cable etc. on an object.
Define normal force.
The force acting on an object perpendicular to the surface.
