Topic 1- Key Concepts In Biology-part 1 Flashcards
Give the subcellular structures (different parts) of an animal cell.
Nucleus Mitochondria Cytoplasm Cell membrane Ribosomes
What’s a nucleus
Contains the genetic material that controls the activities of the cell. Genetic material is arranged into chromosomes.
What’s mitochondria
Where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place.
Respiration transfers energy that the cell needs to work.
What’s Cytoplasm
A gel-like substance where most of the chemical reactions take place. Contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions.
What’s a cell membrane
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
What’s ribosomes
Involved in the translation of genetic material in the synthesis of proteins.
Eukaryotic cells
Complex. Include all animal and plant cells.
Prokaryotic cells
Smaller and simpler. E.g. bacteria
