Topic 1 - Intro to Anatomy Flashcards
define anatomy
the study of internal and external structors of the human body. how all organisms work together in an organismal fashion.
describe the divisions of anatomy
gross anatomy: all that can be seen with the naked eye
mirco-anatomy: a microscope is necessary in all instances such as cytology; to see in depth one specific cell. or histology; to see the four tissues. (cant be seen with a naked eye).
describe in order from simplest to most complex the order and levels of organization of the human body
chemical: atoms, tiny building blocks, form together creating molecules such as water and proteins. molecules then form together creating organelles and in turn there are blood cells. *cells are the most basic function of life.
cellular: as cells are made up of molecules such as H20 and O, molecules form organelles which form life. this leads to the next level; tissue
tissue: there are four tissue types; epithelial (covers body surface), connective tissue (protects organs), muscular (allows movement) and nervous (notifies the mind and body with a rapid electrical impulse). these tissues are groups of similarly structured cells coming together to accomplish a common function.
organ: two or more tissues used, typically four, that work together to accomplish a common function amongst other organs in the body. eg. respiratory system: use of lungs, branchi, oesophagus… function is respirating.
organism: organ system consists of multiple organs that work together closely
organismal: the human body is made up of many organ systems that work closely together to maintain life!
