Topic 1-How Does Our Body Communicate With Us? Flashcards
Describe the structure and function of the nervous system
Structure: made up of the brain and spinal cord, CNS information decides how the body should respond
Function: nerves that are in the body,PNS caries messages to and from the CNS to the rest of the body
Explain how the nervous system helps maintain homeostasis
The nervous system helps maintain homeostasis by detecting changes and responses to keep the body’s internal environment stable.
Define stimulus and response
stimulus: A stimulus is something that causes a living thing to respond or react
response: A response is a reaction to a stimulus
Outline the stimulus-response pathway
a stimulus response works through pathways for example detection, process and response
what is the stimulus response detection.
Eyes,Ears,Skin etc detect changes like temperature, light, sound and anything in the environment
what is stimulus response processing
sensory signals are sent to the brain by nerves. the brain converts the signals and decides on the response.
what is stimulus response
the brain sends signals through the nerves to other parts of the body so they can take action
