Abstention

Accountability
The fact or condition of being accountable/responsible
Constituency
A group of voters in a specified area who elect a representative to a legislative body
Apathy
Lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern
Democratic Deficit
Any situation in which there is believed to be a lack of democratic accountability and control over the decision making process
Direct Democracy
Form of democracy in which people decide on policy initiatives directly
E-Democracy
Also known as digital democracy or internet democracy , incorporates 21st-century information and communication technology to promote democracy
Electoral Participation
Percentage of eligible voters who cast a ballot at an election
Electoral
All the people in a country or area that are entitled to a vote
Elitism
The belief that a society or system should be led by an elite
Franchise
An authorisation granted by the government or company to an individual or group enabling them to carry out specified commercial activities, i.e acting as an agent for a companies products
Hyperpluralism
Extreme, exaggerated, or perverted form of pluralism
Pluralism
A condition or system in which two or more states, groups, principles, sources of authority, etc., coexist.
Insider Group
Groups that government - local or national- considers to be legitimate and are given access to decision makers. or example, insider groups might be included in regular meetings with ministers or civil servants and they might be included on lists for circulation of new government proposals
Legitimacy
Conformity to the laws or to rules
Lobbying
Seeking to influence legislators on an issue
Manifesto
A public declaration of policy and aims, especially one issued before an election by a political party or candidate
Non-Electoral Participation
Absence of citizens from the political process, those who can vote, who choose not to
Outside Group
Those who’s aims don’t have the support of the government
Participation Crisis
Public are becoming increasingly disengaged with UK politics
Political Apathy
Feeling of disinterest in the sense of politics or apathy towards politics
Political Culture
Historically based, widely shared belief of feeling and values about the nature of political systems, which can link to citizens and government
Politics
The activities associated with how a country or area are governed, especially the debate between parties having power
Pressure Group
A group that tries to influence public policy in the interest of particular cause
