Voluntary non-work activity that is organized for the attainment of
personal and social benefits including restoration and social cohesion.

A free activity standing quite consciously outside “ordinary life” as
being not “serious” but at the same time absorbing the player intensely
and utterly”

This Theory is Leisure is a total way of life.
o Everything we do and how we do it is interrelated.
o Leisure may be experience within the various contexts of
life such as family, education, religion & work.
o Leisure is fused with satisfying work.
HOLISTIC THEORY OF LEISURE
Women’s movement emerged in the 1960’s
Much attention was devoted to women’s leisure in the 1980’s.
Feminist believe that leisure is comprised of meaningful
experiences characterized by enjoyment.

The psychological experience of Leisure & Recreation can include the
following properties:
ntensely absorbing experiences where the
challenge of an activity matched the skill level of the individual so that the
person “lost track of both time and the awareness of self”. If the person’s
skills were much higher than the challenges of the activity the person
would experience “Boredom”, while if the challenges were much higher
than the skills a person would experience “anxiety”.
