Topic 1 Flashcards
What is Hydraulic action
When water compresses into the crack of the cliff then the pressure causes the cracks to explode and carrack the cliff in to chunks
What is abrasion
It is when when waves with rocks in it hit the cliff and erode it away
What is attrition
It is when pebbles hit against each other and become smooth and flatter
What is solution
It’s when calcium rocks erode because of the chemicals in the water and cause it to erode
What’s mass movement
It’s when huge pieces of cliff material move down the cliff due to gravity
What is slumping
When water seeps through the pores and cause the ground to get heavy and then rain seeps through the cracks which makes it get slippery then the ground slips due to gravity
What is longshore drift
When swash bring up material at a diagonal direction the backwash brings the material back due to gravity and the it keeps going
What are constructive waves
They are waves that occur at calm weathers and associated with gentle sloping beaches
What are destructive waves
Waves that occur at stormy weather and are associated with steep beaches
What is weathering
The disintegration of material through weather animals and plants
What is traction
When pebbles are rolled along the sea bed
What is saltation
When sand is bounced against the sea bed
What is a fetch
A long distance between to upland area where waves are created due to air flow
