A place or region newly settled
Civilization
A society-or a people sharing a language, territory, and economy-that has certain basic features
City-state
A political unit that controls a city and its surrounding land
Feudalism
A system of rule by Lords who ruled their own lands but owed loyalty and military service to a monarch
Crusades
Between 1100 and 1300, the series of wars fought by Christians to control Palestine, or the Holy Land
Silk Road
A network of overland trade routes linking China to the Middle East
Renaissance
The burst of learning in Europe from the late 1300s to about 1600
Culture
the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group
Culture Region
a region with people who share common cultural characteristics
Tribe
a social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect, typically having a recognized leader
Iroquoise League
a union of Native American peoples established about 1570
Colony
a group of people of one nationality or ethnic group living in a foreign city or country.
