Pythagorean Theorem
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
Pythagorean Triples
3-4-5, 5-12-13, 8-15-17
Remember their multiples
Area of a Triangle
1/2(b)(h)
Area of a Triangle: Isoceles
Base is equal to height
Average
= sum of the items / number of items
or
sum of items = average * number of items
Example of average/sum use
2 groups with different averages, find average of the two groups.
Group has average, another group is added and average becomes X. What was average of added group?
Rate Equations
amount = rate x time
or
distance = speed x time
Watchout for rate equations
Two amounts/distances will never have answer that is the mean of the two distances.
Only add the rates, nothing else
Example of rate use
Two groups completing one task, driving distance at two different rates, etc.
Permutation
ex: 5! = 54321 = 120
Combination
ex: how many combos of 3 can be taken from a set of 20?
Ans: (20!)/(3!) * (20! - 3!)
Combination Shortcut
ex: 20! = 20191817! (allows to simplify):
ex: how many combos of 3 can be taken from a set of 20?
Ans: (20!)/(3!) * (20! - 3!)
Simplified: 20191817! / (3! * 17!)
=201918/3!
=201918/321
