Top 100 Drugs Flashcards
What is the indication of Digoxin
1- Atrial Fibrillation
2- Sever Heart Failure
What is the mechanism of action for Digoxin?
- Neagatively chronotropic (decrease Heart Rate) and positively Inotropic (Increases force contraction )
- Inhibit Na+/ K+ ATPase pumps, Increases Ca2+ , Increases contraction force
What are the side effects of Digoxin?
-Bradycardia
- GI upset
- Rash
- Dizziness
- Visual Disturbance
What is the indication of Beta Blockers?
1- IHD
2- CHF
3- AF
4- Hypertension 4th line
What is the mechanism of action for Beta Blockers?
Via B1- Androreceptors, B Blockers reduce force of cardiac contraction and speed of conduction
What are the side effects of Beta Blockers?
- Fatigue
- Cold hand and Feet
- headache
- GI upset
- Sleep disturbance
Give examples of Beta Blockers
- Bisoprolol
- Antenolol
- Proponalol
- Treroprolol
- Carvedilol
What is the indication of ARBs?
1 Hypertension
2 chronic heart failure (First line)
3 prevention of cardiac vascular events–> IHD
4 Diabetic neuropathy + CDK with proteinuria
What is the mechanism of action for ARBs?
- Blocks the action of antiogenson 2 on type 1 (AT1) receptor
- Reduces vascular resistance –> lowering BP
- Dialates efferent glomerular arteiole –> decreasing inter glomarular pressure + slows progression of CKD
What are the side effects of ARBs?
- Hypotension
- Hyper kalaemia
- Renal Failure
Give examples of ARBs
- Lorsatan
- Candesarten
- Irbesartan
What are the indications of Amiodarone?
Tachyarrhythmias, eg. AF, atrial flutter, SVT, ventricular fibrillation.
What is the mechanism of action for Amiodarone?
Blockage of sodium, calcium and potassium channels + antagonism of alpha and beta adrenergic receptors –> decrease spontaneors depolaristaion.
What are the side effects of Amiodarone?
- Hypertension
- preumoritis
- Bradycardia
- Hepatitis
- Thyroid abnormalities
Give an example of Amiodrone
Class III drug of AF
