Tools 7 11. 17. 29 Flashcards
Nozzle maintenance
Should be washed out and checked for defects before being placed back in service after use.
A LIGHT COATING OF OIL is applied after cleaning
The OST 1/2inch, shall ALWAYS be attached to the nozzle ( when removed the boss carries it)
Controlling nozzles shall be tested when?
ANNUALLY in August, and whenever deemed necessary.
Two lengths of hose from pumper, nozzle attached and water started with “sufficiamt pressure developed to attain an effective stream”
Shut offs opened and closed several times nozzles operated ( MST, OST, FT)
Defectives get an rt2
New and repaired nozzles tested in the same way before placing into service
FT 2 nozzle features
Constant pressure/ constant flow. The gym remain the same during patern changes
However the constant pressure feature does not operate below 65psi or in excess of 105 psi. Above 105 the baffle will open all the way and remain there.
180 gpms is the acceptable fire fighting stream it will require 2 men to hold, if 1 man can hold it, it’s not enough
To the right the fog patern is tight.
It is the responsibility of the 4th due eng to bring the high rise nozzle to the command post. If they’re not equipped with it, what steps must you take
The officer contacts the dispatcher for the identity of the eng equipped with one assigned on the box.
The unit will take the HRN, one length of 21/2hose PER GUY, and the standpipe kit, with the controlling nozzle to the IC at the lobby command post.
A 1 1/8 MST is attaché to the outlet of the HRN the tip is removable and should be checked when?
Weekly during mud and BEFORE use
As a general rule when supplying the HRN with a 2 1/2” hose what should the pressures from the outlet gauge be
70 psi for 3 lengths
80 psi when using 4 lengths
And placed into operation at the direction of the IC only. He will announce over the HT that the HRN will be placed into operation
Putting the HRN into operation will require 2 eng companies. What should they bring
Roll ups, standpipe kitS, forcible entry tools including the rabbit tool and the HRN.
Supply line must be attached BEFORE the nozzle is slid out the window
If multiple rooms are involved, at a wind driven fire, what would be the key to rapid extinguishment using the HRN
You’ll have to reposition the HRN to completely extinguish the fire.
Start with the window that the wind is blowing into, extinguish this first. Then move to the other windows downwind of the original fire room to complete knockdown.
Where do you place the shut off on the HRN
One length back
Cockloft nozzle features
Supplied by 1 3/4” line. It has 2 half inch ost’s attached to 15/16 mst’s.
The OST are not to be removed.
Carried in the division car.
It’s NEVER the primary attack line
When using the cockloft nozzle in a NFP M.D., where is the preferred location for its operation?
Immediatly inside the appt. door.
A hole approx 3’x3’, and the clearing between the top of the ceiling joists and the bottom of the roof joists must be a minimum of 4” for it’s operation.
The Akron new York multiversal nozzle has stacked tips, 1 1/4”, 1 1/2”, and 2”. What are their operating pressures?
1 1/4– 100 psi
1 1/2– 70psi
2”– 50psi (biggest opening, lowest pressure)
What are the highest and lowest elevations the Akron can be used at?
90 degrees above to 15 degrees below.
The safety stoplock release pin stops it from going below 35 degrees above horizontal unless the pin is pulled.
The akron safety chain alone shall never be relied on a rope is also needed. The spikes on the bottom of the unit, if the flat ends exceed what, they must be sharpened?
1/16th an inch.
Note.. 200psi max in this unit
The TIFF combustible gas detector, carried by battalions and trucks, detects gas as low as?
5 ppm .
It IS intrinsically safe.
Initial charging time is 24 hrs, subsequent recharge I takes 12-16 hrs.
A full charge gives you 4 hrs of continuous use.
