What is the tongue?
A
The sensory organ for the sense of taste.

A
Taste buds

Where are taste buds found?
A
In the grooves on the surface of the tongue.

What do the receptor cells do?
A
Transform the sensed stimulus into nerve impulses. The nerve impulses are then transmitted by sensory neurons, to the brain.

How can substances be detected by our taste buds?
A
Only if they’re soluble in saliva, if they are concentrated enough and if they come into contact with taste buds.
