Words to describe a singer’s tone can vary greatly and largely depend on our own personal taste

refers to the choices made by a singer with regard to the breaths or pauses within a melody

A
The melody is delivered smoothly, as if the notes of the phrase are joined together. This is the opposite of staccato

Staccato
A
The melody is delivered detached from the other notes – short and sharp and rhythmically accented. It can also be referred to as ‘rhythmic phrasing’
