它的動詞是compensate，如果查英文字典，得到的字義解釋是「補償、賠償」，但是它的名詞在職場上另指正式的「薪資報酬」的意思，而且是指整個package（套裝組合），有一個比較接近的字稱為「福利」。

比方說公司除了支付每月薪水，還有免費員工午餐、交通車接送上下班、公司配備的免費手機、年假30天等等，以及紅利、員工配股、佣金、利潤分享專案等等，甚至包括旅遊活動、加班費、尾牙吃大餐，這些全部合在一起，統稱compensation。
