What is growth?
Change in height and weight
Why do toddlers have drowning dangers?
They still have a large head and their balance is not great.
When do teeth begin to come in?
6-8 months
When do children start to lose teeth?
6-8 years old
One to three year olds go from:
Walking to running, jumping and climbing
Grasping a block to stacking many
Scribbling with fist grasp to drawing
Dexterity
Skillful use of hands and fingers
Sensory Integration
The brain combines information from several senses to make a single “whole picture”
Sensory disfunction
The inability to process or use all the information the senses take in.
Are routines before bed important?
Yes
How do you meet a child’s nutritional needs?
Give them serving sizes, give them food they like and don’t force them to eat anything. No casseroles.
Size of a toddlers stomach?
The size of their fist. Eats less food, more often. 2 TBSP of each food is average.
What order do food empty the stomach?
Liquids, carbs, proteins, fats.
What is a good bedtime snack?
Something that includes protein and fat such as 1/2 piece of peanut butter toast, milk, fruit, crackers

What do you do if the toddler starts to have nightmares?
You can “re-do” the bedtime routine with the toddler. You can also stay with the child for a while to reassure them.
Parallel Play
They play near or next to each other but not actually with other children
Cooperative play
Playing with another child, requires taking turns (happens at about 3 years)
What do you do if children start fighting?
You should wait to intervene to see if they can work it out. Otherwise just guide them through it

Children learn because they are directly taught (shoe tying, learning letters)
By age 3 many toddlers can classify items by:
Size, shape, color
Car seats: what should infants under 1 year and 20 pounds be in?
A rear facing car seat.
Car seats: at what age can an infant be in a front facing car seat?
1 year
Car seats: what age must a child ride in a car/booster seat until?
Age 8 or 4’9” or taller.
