bilateral lateral pterygoid
side notes:
you are going to see a gliding of the condyle of BOTH compartments;
you will see translatory movements in both TMJ’s;
you are going to see bilateral firing of lateral pterygoids most notably the inferior heads
the movement in retraction movement is described?
both compartments gliding
the muscle involved in retraction movement is?
bilateral posterior temporalis
side note:
you are going to have translatory movement again but this time it is going to be posterior fibers of the temporalis muscle. that are creating that movement
what is the movement of elevation TMJ movement?
gliding both superior and rotation both inferior compartments
what is/are the muscle(s) of elevation(and retraction)?
masseter
temporalis
and
medial pterygoid
what is the movement of depression (and protrusion)
same patterns as elevation
gliding both superior and rotation both inferior compartments
what is the muscle(s) of depression (and protrusion)?
inferior head lateral pterygoid and suprahyoids bilaterally (helps w/depression)
side note:
you need rotation and translation
*gliding one superior cavity and rotation opposite superior cavity is known as what TMJ movement?
lateral deviation movement
what is the muscle(s) of the lateral deviation?
*KNOW THIS!
unilateral, Lateral pterygoid
*KNOW THIS!
side note:
lateral deviation, you are going to have gliding in ONE of the TMJ’s.
you are going to have rotation in the opposite ONE. and you are going to get unilateral contraction of the lateral pterygoid muscle.
