TLO 2 Chart Of The Nuclides Flashcards
ELO 1.2 Describe how stable and radioactive isotopes are identified on the Chart of the Nuclides.
Gray colored boxes denote stable nuclides.
White or color boxes denote unstable nuclides.
ELO 2 Neutron/Proton Ratio
The ratio of neutrons to protons in the nucleus becomes larger as the mass numbers become higher.
Ratio = N/Z
ELO 3.2 Describe Atom Percent
The percentage of atoms of an element that are of a particular isotope.
ELO 3.2 Describe Atomic Weight
The average atomic weight of all isotopes of the element. Calculated by multiplying the isotopic abundance by the isotopic mass and then adding the products for each isotope together.
ELO 3.1 Describe Weight Percent
The percentage of weight of a particular isotope of an element.
w/o = (% as decimal) × weight or mass
ELO 4 Describe enriched uranium
Enriched uranium is uranium that has a higher concentration of uranium-235 then found a natural uranium.
ELO 4 Describe depleted uranium
Depleted uranium is a byproduct of the enrichment process. It is uranium where the isotope uranium-235 has a lower concentration than its natural value of 0.7204%
