Tl201 Flashcards
What do thallium heart studies show?
Viability of myocardium
Extent of CAD
How does thallium work in heart
Tl201 is an analog of potassium K
K is used during muscle contractions and is constantly being pumped in and out of the heart - how much is used is based on blood flow
What to look out for with thallium
Redistribution into the myocardium do to the sodium potassium pump
What can redistribution cause
False negatives
Pt must be imaged within ______ minutes after cessation of stress and why
5-10 minutes
Because redistribution occurs rapidly and will fill in defects
SPECT or planar is preferred with Tl201
Spect
When should planar images be taken after injection
10 minutes after injection
Tl201 dose
2-4 mCi
What collimator
LEAP
Why would planar images be required
To calculate heart to lung ratio
To assist in the ID of artifacts in spect
When to image
Stress first, image 5-10 minutes after
Image delays (rest) 3-4 hours after
Tl201 rest dose and image time
2.5-3 mCi
image 10-15 mins after injection and delays at 3-4 hours (up to 24)
Tl201 redistribution dose and image time
AFTER the 3-4 he delays
1.5 mCi
Imaged at 10-15 post injection
What is the purpose of tl201 redistribution procedure
Increases sensitivity or stress/redistribution
