Apothecary
a person who prepared and sold medicines and drugs.
Repertoire
a stock of plays, dances, or pieces that a company or a performer knows or is prepared to perform.
Vexations
the state of being annoyed, frustrated, or worried; something that causes annoyance, frustration, or worry.
Dictum
a formal pronouncement from an authoritative source.
Predilection
a preference or special liking for something; a bias in favor of something.
Entailment
involve (something) as a necessary or inevitable part or consequence.
Stricture
a restriction on a person or activity.
Concession
a thing that is granted, especially in response to demands; a thing conceded.
Chattel
a personal possession.
Foray
a sudden attack or incursion into enemy territory, especially to obtain something; a raid.
Condescend
To show that you believe you are more intelligent or better than other people; to do something that you usually do not do because you believe you are too important to do it.
Hook worm
A parasitic worm that inhabits the intestines of humans and other animals. It has hooklike mouth parts that attach the worm to the wall of the gut, puncturing the blood vessels and feeding on the blood.
Indigenous
Produced, growing, living, or occurring naturally in a particular region or environment.
Immune
not being capable of being affected by a disease; not influenced or affected by something.
Illicit
Not allowed by law; unlawful or illegal; involving activities that are not considered morally acceptable.
Covey
A small flock of birds; a small group of people or things.
Scrip stamps
Paper money of small denominations issued by government agencies for temporary emergency use; particularly common during the great depression.
Sojourn
A period of time where you stay in a place as a traveler or guest.
The crash
The sharp decline in U.S. stock market values in 1929 that contributed to the Great Depression.
WPA
Word Projects Administration: the former federal agency (1935-1943) charged with instituting and administering public works in order to relieve national unemployment.
