Titrations Flashcards
Define Titrant
The reagent with a known concentration
Usually delivered from the burette
What is the Equivalence Point?
The point where the quantity of the titratant added is the exact amount needed to neutralize the solution containing the analyte
Define the End Point
A change in physical property of the solution has been observed, and the titration is finished
Preferably, this is the same as the equivalence point
What is Titration Error?
The difference between the end point and the equivalence point
What is a Blank Titration
A titration procedure is performed without the analyte present.
It is used to estimate titration error.
What is Primary Standard
Lab grade pure chemicals weighed and dissolved in a solution.
Define Standardization
Concentration of titration is determined by titrating a primary standard
What is a Direct Titration
Titratant is added until the end point is reached
What is a Back Totration
A known excess of standard reagent is added to the analyte
This reagent is titrated with a second standard reagent
What is Gravimetric Titration?
Titrant is measured by mass, not volume
Concentration is expressed in moles/kg of solution
