Tissues of the body Flashcards
What are Epithelial tissues?
Cover surfaces both inside and outside of our body, lines all of our hollow organs such as intestines, inside blood vessels )
Comprises things that secrete either proteins or hormones to produce activity
What are the functions of Epithelial tissues?
Selective barriers and epithelial tissue on the outside of structures act as protection, The Lining of the urine filter in kidneys is made of Epithelial cells.
What are the 5 main junctions?
Tight, Adherens, Desmosome, Hemidesmosome, Gap
What are some functions of the Tight junctions?
Found in the apical end of the cell, shown as sewen together by molecules, contain proteins that form structures on the membrane and across the membrane that bind one cell to another
What 2 proteins are used in Tight junctions
Claudin and Occludin
What are some functions of the Adherens junctions?
Two cells do not come as close as the tight junction, it leaves a gap where Proteins roam between Important for stabilising the cell from mechanical trauma
Explain the protein relationship in the Adherins junction.
What are some functions of the Desmosome junction?
Button-like junction, the gap between membranes, circular plaque
Explain the protein relationship in the desmosome junction
What are some of the functions of gap junction?
Made up of 6 connection proteins that form a hemichannel
