Q

What is the difference between osteoblasts & osteoclasts?

A

Osteoblasts : immature cells producing the matrix
Osteoclasts : absorb and remove bone matrix

In living bone: Osteoclasts are constantly removing

Q

Compact Bone

A
  • found mainly in the shafts of long bones (where a strong
    tubular structure is required)
  • has strength as the lamellae are laid down in concentric
    rings

Q

Cancellous bone

A
  • found in the parts of bone where lightness and strength are
    required
  • is light as the lamellae are laid down irregularly to form a
    mesh
