Cyanosis
• bluish discolouration
of the skin due to reduced
oxygenation of blood – evident at gums, tongue, lips, cheeks and ear lobes.
Pallor
• an unnatural paleness or absence of colour in the
skin
• look at mucous membranes, conjuctivae, nail beds
• Can be a sign of anemia
Jaundice
• yellowish discoloration of the skin and
whites of the eyes
• can be due to liver impairment,
inflammation of gall bladder
what is melanoma
•Cancerous pigment cells invade all layers •Can metastasise (spread) to lymph/blood. • Most deadly 50% die (5% of skin CA) •Spreading black or brown patch •Monitor moles (mole mapping)

a- asymmetry
b - boarders (uneven outer edges)
c - colour (dark black or multiple colours)
d - diameter (greater then 6mm)
e - evolving (change in size, colour, shape)
Cellulitis, causes and intervention
Bacterial infection (main bact staph) of the underlying tissues of the skin causes swelling, pain, warmth.
Caused by bacteria entering through a cut. Lower extremities most likely affected. Can be lethal if spreads to lymph or blood
• Most likely to develop in people with circulatory disorders, diabetes, post-surgery, lymphoedema, malnutrition, immunocompromised, substance abuse problems.
