Tissue fluid Flashcards
What is tissue fluid?
Fluid that is made by blood plasma, it contains nutrients like glucose and amino acids
What is the Lymphatic System?
System of tubes that return excess tissue fluid to the blood system
What is Lymph?
A colourless/ pale yellow fluid like tissue fluid but containing more lipids
What happens at the arteirole end of the capillary bed?
The hydrostatic pressure inside the capillaries is greater than in the tissue fluid
the hydrostatic pressure is also greater than the osmotic pressure
What forms tissue fluid?
The difference in hydrostatic pressure forces fluid containing small molecules out of the blood through tiny gaps in the capillary walls
What forms of transport occurs between tissue fluid and cells?
Diffusion, facilitated diffusion and active transport
What reduces the hydrostatic pressure?
Fluid leaving the capillaries at the arteirole endBlood pressure at the venous end of the capillaries is much lower
What lowers the water potential of the blood?
Water leaving the capillary but the plasma proteins can’t leave
What makes the osmotic pressure become greater at the venule end?
the low water potential in the capillaries
