Tissue Flashcards
How does tissue form?
-cells near each other in the embryo often differentiate in same way and group
The three types of mammalian tissue
-Epithelial
-Muscular
-Connective
Where are the epithelial tissue cells found?
-they sit on a basement membrane
What do epithelial cells do?
-forms a continuous layer, covering or lining the internal and external surfaces of the body
What do epithelial cells not have and may have?
-not have-blood vessels
-may have-nerve endings
Simplest form of epithelial cells is
-cuboidal, one cell thick
Where do the cuboidal epithelium cells occur?
-proximal convoluted tubule of the kidney nephron and ducts of salivary glands
Columnar epithelial are what shape?
-elongated
2 Lining tubes that substances move through
-trachea
-oviduct
Squamous cells are
-flattened cells on a basement membrane that form the walls of the alveoli and line the renal capsule of the nephron
Three types of muscle tissue
-skeletal
-smooth muscle
-cardiac muscle
Skeletal muscle:
-attached to bones
-bands of long cells or fibres that give powerful contraction
-muscle tires easily
Voluntary muscles means
-you can choose whether to contract or not contract the muscles
Why are skeletal muscles also called striped or striated muscles?
-because you can see the strips on them under a microscope
Where are smooth muscle cells found?
-skin
-walls of blood vessels
-digestive and respiratory tracts
