Poet’s intention is to alter views of reader.

Focus on hand - universal item no matter our culture.

Suggests that there is a light that can show the borders between countries.
Either side of the border we are the same.
Referring to maps as tissue shows their fragility, they are just a construct that we have created.
“find a way to trace a grand design with living tissue”
This architect is going to design something with people. The architect could be God.
“Trace” could refer to heritage and history. We all share the same common ancestor.
“and thinned to be transparent, turned into your skin”
“thinned” shows that our differences of culture are very easily broken through.
The idea of transparency tells us that we are similar.
