  • BC’s disabled son🥴, used by Dickens to highlight transformation of Scrooge - when BC proposed a toast to Scrooge on Xmas day, “Tiny tim drank it last of all” hdislike towards father’s boss) –> after Scrooge’s reparations, he becomes a “second father” to TT, epitomising his character development
  • Dickens was advocate for poor, creates a sympathetic embodiment of suffering of youth using TT. Presented as “good as gold” followed by describing him as “feebly”

POVERTY: presented as hopeful/grateful despite distressing situation. Relationship w Scrooge highlights how rich have a duty towards poor through allegorical manner

CLASS TENSIONS: relationship between Scrooge & TT symbolic of connection between upper & lower class. Spcial responsibility. When Scrooge ignorant of lower class dismissing them as “surplus population”, he realises his social responsibility upon TT’s tragic death

“God bless us, Everyone!” - religious focus of statement presents TT as an exemplary child who embodies spirit of xmas. Indefinite pronoun “everyone” - compassionate/caring. Final words of novella attributing sense of importance to character & leaving reader w image of TT as symbol of hope.

Referred to as “My little, little child” - Dickens uses epimone to further characterise TT as frail & weak. Causes sympathy as reader realises tragic nature of his death. Repititon of “little” - lost for words, reader understands strong emotions of BC - innocence/helplessness/injustice
