What are deciduous trees
Deciduous trees are trees that loses its leaves in autumn and remains bare throughout winter.
What are evergreen trees
Evergreen trees are trees that keeps its leaves throughout the years
How can you tell if a tree is a hardwood or softwood tree by its leaves?
You can tell if a tree is a hardwood or soft wood tree by its leaves. If the leaves look like needles, it is from a evergreen tree. If a leaf has a large surface area, it is from a deciduous tree
Why is hardwood expensive
Deciduous trees grow slower, because for half the year they are not growing at all. Thus they can not be replaced as quickly. This means that hardwood is generally more expensive, harder to get and becoming shorter in supply.
Why do we build with wood?
We build with wood as it is strong, durable, weather resistant (in some cases). It has a good finish and can be sustainably harvested, it is also natural and has a very smooth texture.
