2. Joint pain
3. Nausea
4. Jaundice
5. Agranulocytosis(rare)
6. Hypothyroidism from overtreatment
How to prevent overtreatment from carbimazole
Monitor thyroid size and serum TSH level to titrate carbimazole dose when reduced/norm level
Carbimazole takes _______ of inition of treatment before visible clinical response so it is impprtant to ensure ___________
3-6wks; adherence
Sx of hypothyroidism
Feeling cold, Fatigue, low HR/BP, Hair loss, constipation, obesity, depression, joint pain, menstrual changes
What is a drug used to treat hypothyroidism?
Levothyroxine
MOA of Levothyroxine
ADR of levothyroxine
- Reduced appetite
- Anxiety
- Diarrhoea
- Insomnia
- Hair loss
Rare and serious
6. Heart issues (arrhythmia, High BP, pain, HF)
7. seizures
When to use IV levothyroxine?
Myxoedema coma - severe form of hypothyroidism due to reduce blood flow to GI, affecting gut absorption of oral levothyroxine
