Q

methimazole, propylthiouracil MOA

A

block peroxidase-mediated iodination of thyroglobulin, inhibiting organification of iodide and coupling of thyroid hormone synthesis
Propylthiouracil also blocks 5’ deiodinase which decreases peripheral conversion of T4 to T3
return pt to euthyroid state before long term option
meth preferred to PTU when radioactive iodine is needed bc doesnt inhibit uptake

Q

Glucocorticoids- bone effects?

A

antagonize Vit. D mediated GI absorption of Ca and PO4
partially block reab of Ca and PO4
enhance PTH-mediated bone resorption

17
Q

Vit D/ Ca supplements

A

treatment for hypocalecemia, overdose can lead to stone formation
