Thrombolytics Flashcards
thrombolytics MOA
Modified forms of tPA that bind to fibrin and convert plasminogen to plasmin
route of administration for all thrombolytic drugs
all IV
thrombolytic Drugs (3)
Alteplase
Reteplase
Tenecteplase
Thrombolytic drugs main clinical use
STEMI
Alteplase can be used in STEMI, and also in _____.
PE, Ischemic stroke, open central venous access devices
Why can tenecteplase be advantageous?
might offer advantages due to fewer non cerebral bleeding events and ease of use (single bolus)
Absolute contraindications for use of thrombolytic drugs
prior intracranial hemorrhage, known structural cerebral vascular lesion, known malignant intracranial neoplasm, ischemic stroke within 3 months, suspected aortic dissection, active bleeding or bleeding diathesis, significant closd head trauma or faial trauma in last 3 months
What is timing so important for thrombolytic drugs
if it is administered within first 3 hours you have a lower mortality rate
